Q: I want to start running but have no idea where to start. What do I do?
A: Google “Couch to 5K”
Q: What’s the number one piece of advice you’d offer someone who wants to start running?
A: Be sure to get the right shoes. Visit a knowledgeable running store like Fleet Feet where the employees are trained to help pick out the correct shoes for your gait.
Q: I’ve decided to do Couch to 5K. Is there an easier way to keep up with the intervals than a stopwatch?
A: Yes! There are apps for smart phones that will allow you to use your own music and chime in when you should walk or run. There are also podcasts available for download that have the cues built in.
Q: I’ve started exercise programs in the past but never seem to stick with them. Any advice to stay motivated?
A: Couch to 5K is a 9-week program. I suggest you go ahead and register for a specific 5K that is scheduled as soon as possible after you are set to complete C25K. And tell everyone you know - post it as your Facebook status. It’s much easier to stick with it if you have to eat your words otherwise.
